UCT HOSTS THE ANNUAL GLOBAL CAREERS SERVICE SUMMIT
What an incredible moment of reflection following the Global Career Services Summit (GCS Summit) hosted at the University of Cape Town. As the Summit’s first-ever gathering on the African continent, bringing global leaders in career development to our campus created a powerful space for deep learning, meaningful dialogue and collective visioning for the future of career education.
Across LinkedIn, one theme rang true: the Summit delivered real gains, both personally and professionally, for delegates representing diverse systems and contexts.
Delegates spoke about the power of community, noting how, despite different models and funding realities, the challenges and opportunities in career development remain remarkably similar around the world. The Summit became a space for honest exchange, shared problem‑solving, and global connection.
The ideas exchange session was repeatedly highlighted as a standout moment, showcasing a record number of poster submissions from universities across continents. Delegates left inspired by fresh approaches they could take back to their campuses, a reminder that we only get to keep what we give away.
The Summit theme truly came alive through workshops, reflective sessions, and creative thinking methodologies (including the ever‑popular LEGO® Serious Play). These formats helped leaders rethink old problems through new lenses, reinforcing that innovation in career services requires courage, imagination, and cultural transformation.
Most importantly, the GCS Summit shone a light on UCT’s commitment to shaping future‑ready graduates. From world‑class hosting at the UCT d-school to the thoughtful curation of sessions, the event demonstrated the university’s leadership in the global career development space.
A special acknowledgment goes to Stafford Bomester, Director of UCT Careers Service, whose vision, energy and commitment to professionalising student career development continues to elevate UCT’s impact. His leadership together with the outstanding UCT Careers Service project team ensured that every delegate felt welcomed, inspired, and immersed in the spirit of Cape Town and our campus community.
To every partner, presenter, and participant: thank you for your generosity, your insights, and your willingness to collaborate. The conversations ignited here will ripple far beyond this Summit.
Here’s to building stronger global networks, shaping agile and empowered graduates, and continuing the collective work of reimagining career education for the future.
