At this time of the year, many students become worried about the possibility of being excluded from UCT. Careers Service would like to help reduce that anxiety by offering some practical steps to follow should you suspect that you may be or are excluded.

To this end, we offer the following helpful information and steps to follow.

  • If you think that you may be excluded, do not wait for the official communication to act, as it may be too late to access certain UCT support services
  • Check your UCT email address for any official communication from UCT and your faculty during the holidays

HERE ARE SOME STEPS TO FOLLOW IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE EXCLUDED: (READ TO THE END):

1. SRC and student faculty councils have assisted with readmission appeals in the past. Check your emails and social media accounts for possible information.

2. Whether a readmissions appeal is feasible for you to consider or not, you may find it helpful to reflect on the following questions:

  • Am I in the right faculty or course?
  • Do I need to consider transferring to a different faculty or another university or a technical and vocational training institute?
  • If I cannot study next year, what other options do I need to consider? 

3. Consider finding work. Below are some useful links to do so:

4. Consider studying part-time or later:

  • Many people work and study simultaneously to fulfil their career goals.  Others decide to pass the courses they failed elsewhere and reapply to UCT thereafter.  It may even be helpful to take a gap from studying and reflect on exactly what your next move should be.

5. Book a one-to-one session (virtual or face to face) with a careers development consultant here. If no slots are available, please ask a question.
